He Lingers Still
TEXT: Mark Ryman (2005) based on John 4:5-42
TUNE: “
Russia,” adapted from Dmitri S. Bortniansky, (1751-1825)

He did not have so much to lose
But we have very much to gain.
It was easy for him to choose
What others considered profane.

So when he came to Jacob’s well,
He sat down in that foreign land,
Waiting awhile so he could tell
Her good news like it had been planned.

I thirst from my lengthy journey;
Give me a drink while you still can.
Ask me the same (here’s irony)…
You’ll never be thirsty again.

That which I give springs deep within
The great wells of eternity.
For when I dip, you will begin
To drink Living Water from me.

He lingers still for us today
To give us water without end
It still runs deep from God’s cache
For those who, like her, comprehend.
